On December 8th, 2026 Prof. Dr. Andreas Brunnert will give the talk „Green Cloud Champions: CO2-Reduzierung durch Gamifizierung mit Cloud-Provider-Daten“ (Green Cloud Champions: CO2 reduction through gamification with cloud-provider data) at IT-Tage 2026 in Frankfurt.
About the talk
The talk presents a playful approach that uses periodically updated CO2 data (e.g. monthly or quarterly) from cloud providers (GCP, AWS, Azure) to make sustainability measurable and competitive in large software organisations. The focal point is a simple leaderboard that displays two key metrics for each team:
- The CO2 footprint as a share of the company’s total cloud consumption.
- The reduction of the footprint in the last period (e.g. monthly).
The leaderboard shows individual achievements per team, which IT leadership can recognize with appreciation or small rewards. This makes progress visible and turns sustainability into a competitive factor.
