On July 9th, 2026 Prof. Dr. Andreas Brunnert gave the keynote „Green software: Are we on the right track?“ at Green IO Munich 2026.

Green software: Are we on the right track?

The keynote addresses the gap between what organisations intend to achieve in sustainability and what they are actually able to measure. It develops a shared vocabulary for leaders, developers and sustainability practitioners along four questions:

  1. Why are we measuring anyway?
  2. What do we need to capture, and how can we do so?
  3. Where are our system boundaries?
  4. Should we consider all lifecycle phases?

Green IO Munich 2026 took place from July 8th to 9th, 2026 at Smartvillage Bogenhausen in Munich. The first day was dedicated to workshops, the second to talks.

Beyond the keynote, the event covered a wide range of topics, including hardware circularity, standardisation and software-defined obsolescence. Several members of Bundesverband Green Software e.V. attended as well.
